106 classrooms across 52 state elementary schools in Istanbul, Turkey.

Study Design

Delivery of a 10-to-12-week (minimum 10 sessions, ~2 hours/week) grit program during official 5-hour/week free/extracurricular slots authorized by the Ministry of Education.

Results

Zero reduction in baseline teaching hours for core subjects occurred, while standardized math scores increased by 0.28 standard deviations (p = 0.008) and Turkish scores increased by 0.13 standard deviations (p = 0.027) without crowding out academic instruction.

Takeaway

Schedule non-cognitive intervention modules strictly within Ministry-designated discretionary or free play hours to prevent displacement of core academic instructional time.
