Financial innovations designed to mitigate agricultural risk often fail to produce uniform behavioral changes across target populations due to disparities in formal education, literacy, and trust in complex financial instruments [9, 10]. Uneducated producers may fail to alter production decisions when given hedging products because they lack understanding or confidence in policy execution [10, 11].

Think of giving a high-tech navigational GPS device to two drivers attempting a shortcut through a stormy mountain pass. The driver who can read map symbols and instructions trusts the device and confidently takes the faster, higher-risk route, knowing the GPS will route them around blockages.
