DevelopmentCost-Effectiveness of Market Incentive Information vs Cash TransfersThe recruiting intervention cost $12 per target individual and reduced early marriage/fertility by 5.1–5.7 percentage points with a 5.0 percentage point gain in schooling, whereas unconditional cash transfers in Malawi cost $100+ per household to reduce marriage/fertility by 6.7–7.9 percentage points with no statistically significant schooling gain.RCTPolicy & public sectorIncome Source Substitution EffectWhile treated jobseekers received a mean public transfer increase of €87 per month at month 12, this was offset by a €47 per month reduction in alternate income sources (€26 decrease from employment, €10 decrease from parents, and €11 decrease from other non-work transfers). Consequently, net personal income rose by only €40 per month (ITT, p < 0.05) relative to the control mean of €602 per month.RCTBehaviour & psychologyInstitutional Trust Building via Financial TransfersParticipants receiving conditional cash transfers were 7.8 percentage points more likely to express trust in the Job Youth Center after 24 months (control mean: 69.9%, p < 0.01) and 6.6 percentage points more likely after 12 months (control mean: 81.2%, p < 0.01). No significant changes were detected in underlying psychological traits such as locus of control, patience, or overall life satisfaction.RCTLabour & employmentLabeled Cash Transfers for Refugee Job SearchFour months post-treatment, the cash grant increased Syrian refugee employment by 3.8 percentage points (a 70% increase over control) and raised earnings by 65% (p = 0.040). It doubled job retention rates from 3.3% to 6.2% (p = 0.036) and increased hourly wages by 0.308 JOD (p = 0.055).RCTLabour & employmentLocal Unemployment Rate Moderation of CCT RelianceIn areas with high youth unemployment (>25%), cash transfers increased counselor meetings by 6.58 (p < 0.01) versus 4.16 in low-unemployment areas (p < 0.01; equality test p < 0.01). Total personal monthly income increased significantly by €57.23 (p < 0.01) in high-unemployment regions, compared to a non-significant €19.05 increase in low-unemployment regions.RCT
